If a quiet, cuddly, family bird that remains in the cage is what you seek, there are many species- but Eclectus is generally not one of them. Ekkies are highly talented at solving puzzles but very high strung , have advanced dietary restrictions, demanding and vocal (more than my CAG's). They are difficult to train as they are less motivated by food and VERY hormonal- I would NEVER recommend an eclectus to an inexperienced owner, apartment living or families with small children.
Eclectus are 'teachable' but it takes method and dedication otherwise at 1-2 years old your ekkie may become a demon in sheep's clothing. I cant count the emails/encounters in which an eclectus attacked a child. Understand their unique mating behavior, and you may be less surprised.
